Policy Resolutions Passed

 

The Department of Mathematical Sciences may at its discretion admit applicants with GPAs of between 2.40 and 2.70 on an unconditional basis provided that the prospective student have both sufficient undergraduate course work and standardized test scores that meet any of the following standards:

 

GRE (math subject area): 600 (45th percentile)

GRE (general test quantitative reasoning): 720 (80th percentile)

GMAT (quantitative): 50 (95th percentile)

 

 

ISAC admission Policy

In addition to the regular admission requirements, applicants for the M.S. International Studies program must submit: (1) a resume and (2) an essay that addresses their past experiences, career goals, and the area in which they wish to specialize (select from Africa, East Asia, European Union/ Western Europe, Latin America, Slavic/Eastern Europe and Middle East). Each application must be SUBMITTED electronically or by paper to the International Studies Director who will then direct it to the chair of the region in which the student seeks to specialize.

Early applications are encouraged for full consideration.  The admission deadline for spring semester is December 1; for fall semester the deadline is May 1

 

Policy to limit the number of times a student may attempt the Comprehensive Exam:

If a student receives a failing grade on the comprehensive exam, they may take the exam a second time as scheduled by the department.  The department may require the student to enroll in additional coursework or to make other special preparations for reexamination.  If the student again receives a failing grade on the comprehensive exam, they must receive permission from the program’s department chair and the Dean of the School of Graduate Studies to take the exam a third time, and the department may require the student to enroll in additional coursework or to make other special preparations.  If the student again receives a failing grade on the comprehensive exam, they will be dismissed from the graduate program, unless they are granted permission to choose another capstone option by the program’s department chair.

Policy to require GAs to have a 3.00 GPA:

 A student who wishes to be hired as a graduate assistant (GA) in a CCSU Department must have at least a 3.00 GPA. New students must also have a GPA of 3.00 for either their undergraduate or graduate work.
